1 Public colleges are always less expensive
It’s important to know that very few people pay the sticker price at private colleges. In addition, the chances of graduating in 4 years is much higher at a private college. Each case is different and often times it makes sense to consider both private and public colleges.
2 It takes great grades to get accepted to college.
Having good grades is important and will give you the most options in your college search process. However, if your grades are lower you do not need to rule out attending college. There are plenty of wonderful 4 year colleges that will accept students with lower grades.
3 All colleges require the SAT.
Most colleges will accept either the SAT or the ACT. In addition, there are a growing number of colleges that do not require any standardized testing.
4 It is important to know your major prior to starting college.
Most students will change their major at least twice during college. Don’t worry if you don’t know your major, your first two years of college will inform that choice.
5 Only poor families receive financial aid.
Everyone should fill out a FAFSA form. Many middle income and upper middle income families are surprised when they receive aid from the colleges.
