About Lisa

Lisa Bain Carlton, M. Ed.

Why did you choose to be a College Consultant?

I love connecting to students to a college that fits!

My job is about providing hope and possibilities. There are thousands of colleges and I enjoy researching the “right” match for each student.  Sometimes it is like searching for a needle in a haystack, but it is very rewarding when I find that “right” match for a student.

How do you find the right match?

No two students or families are exactly alike. This is why I take thoughtful care in getting to know each student and their families. Through my extensive travels to college campuses, I look for specific colleges that match the student’s skills and interests and the families financial needs. I collaborate with other consultants around the country which gives my clients access to the best minds in the field of college admissions.

What is your background?

For more than 25 years, I have served multiple roles in the field of education, including in-depth counseling with adolescents and their families. Many adolescents in Dallas County participated in my award winning career-development program for high school students. I worked in higher education at Southern Methodist University, advising college students. I am a consultant for the Schools Attuned Program and am highly skilled in working with students who have learning differences and mental health challenges.

I am thrilled to have been selected to be a member of the Unigo Expert Network, along with some of the top admissions experts throughout the US. As a member of this network, my advice will be featured each month in media outlets including US News & World Report, McGraw-Hill, The Huffington Post, AOL, Seventeen Magazine, and more.

Do you have to go college to be an educational consultant?

Yes!

I earned my her Masters in Counseling and Student Services with honors from the University of North Texas and a Bachelor’s of Business Administration from Texas A&M University. Additionally, I obtained my Certificate in College Counseling from the UCLA College Counseling Certification Program, the most highly regarded national credential program in the field of college counseling. Finally, I am an Associate Member of IECA, the premier professional association for educational consultants.

How do I get started working with you?

Give me a call or send me an email and I will schedule a time for us to speak by phone. This will give you a chance to ask me any questions and I can tell you a little more about my services.  I work with clients nationwide via phone and skype.  I look forward to speaking with you!
